The fall fashion season has officially arrived, and that means updating your shoe collection. Southern men know whether it’s a neighborhood tailgate, business presentation, or social event; your choice in footwear can set you apart.

Although I’ve worked remotely for over a decade, there are moments, albeit brief, I miss the corporate office environment. Since March of this year, many of us are adapting to the stay-at-home, remote work situation.
Unlike our Southern belles, a man’s shoe collection usually isn’t as expansive as the lovely ladies in our lives. That doesn’t mean our fall footwear collection shouldn’t be comfortable and stylish. Below are my recommendations if you’re looking to “up your shoe game.”
Loafers
A quality pair of leather loafers continues as a timeless classic for men’s footwear. I recently ran across a new loafer collection from Old Sport. Their unique design is a needlepoint addition with a southern touch. Started by a team of young college grads, the Old Sport line will add new designs for most Southern states and hobbies.
For a lightweight option, here’s a new line of loafers called Floafers. While they’re more suited to warm weather, adding a pair of socks when you’re working from home is a comfortable way to get through the day.
Since I’m spending more time along the 30A area of the Flordia panhandle, this line sounds like a nice option on mild to warm days. I’m looking forward to trying a pair soon. Don’t forget a classic loafer for fall and year-round wear in Cole Hahn Drivers.
Chukka Boots
I despise being cold, so keeping my feet toasty is a high priority on winter days. Chukka boots not only provide warmth, but they’re also fashionable and can be worn casually and with a suit or sport coat.
Chelsea Boots
If you’re wondering what’s the difference between Chukka and Chelsea boots, well, you’re not alone. Laces are what separate the two styles of footwear. Chelsea boots don’t have laces and are considered a dressier option.

Brown/Black Fashion Sneakers
It wasn’t long ago that TV journalists and sports commentators donned the traditional leather sole shoe with their suits. Today the brown or black fashion sneaker is commonplace. After all, comfort is king in today’s more casual workplace.
Suede Loafers & Lace-ups
The easiest way to add some flare to your loafers is to acquire a pair in suede. I prefer slip-on’s; however, these look great in lace-ups too.
Cowboy Boots
Never underestimate the style and function of a pair of cowboy or western boots. Dress them up or down, and they still look great. I prefer a style known as “ropers,” which have a flatter heel. My advice is not to order these boots without first trying them on. Find a knowledgeable salesperson at a reputable boot or western store so they can help you find the right style and fit for your foot.
High Top Athletic Shoes
I have fond memories of getting a new pair of Chuck Thomas Converse High Tops at the beginning of each basketball season. Although I’m not a fan of how they fit me, today, there are tons of options for every sport and preference.
