Sugarcane Jane, comprised of Anthony Crawford and Savana Lee, recently opened for Dwight Yoakum and tour extensively across the Southeast.
Based in Loxley, Alabama, the couple first met at a recording studio in Nashville. Anthony began playing and touring with Neil Young when he was only 24. He also made his Grand Ole Opry debut at 18, performing with the legendary Roy Acuff.

I sat down with Savana and Anthony at SOWAL House in Rosemary Beach, FL, to chat about their careers and writing songs for Steve Winwood, Kenny Rogers, Sawyer Brown, Lorrie Morgan, and many others.
For the Love of Music
In April of this year, I met Savana and Anthony while rehearsing for an evening performance at a 30a music venue. Their scheduled show from 7 to 10 pm lasted much longer. The duo started setting up and playing around 2 pm, with a handful of people looking on. The crowd enjoyed the music so much that Savana and Anthony played continusously throughout the afternoon and into the evening. However, they weren’t just playing for extra tips. It’s easy to see they both love playing music and entertaining people.
Raised in Birmingham, Alabama, Anthony immediately ventured North to Nashville after graduating high school. He scored a job playing and singing at Opryland theme park, yet it didn’t take long before he found himself playing alongside musical legends on the Grand Ole Opry stage. At 24, Anthony toured with the legendary Neil Young before playing professionally with Steve Winwood, Vince Gill, and Dwight Yoakum. Sugarcane Jane recently opened for Yoakum’s 2022 tour.

Anthony met his future wife in Nashville while recording at a studio owned by Savana and her former husband. Over the next several years, the couple’s friendship blossomed. When Savana divorced and moved back to Alabama, it didn’t take Anthony long to figure out that he better follow if he wanted to pursue a serious relationship. Today the couple lives on their small farm with their children when not touring and performing.
Sugarcane Jane’s songwriting talents benefit other artists and give the duo an ample supply of material for their projects. Ruffled Feathers; Songs In the Key of Me, released in 2020, is their latest CD. Listen to Savana and Anthony tell their personal stories and how meeting each other changed their lives.
