Few of Music City’s top record executives will argue that Jeffrey Steele is one of Nashville’s all-time great songwriters. Yet what makes Steele so unique is that he devotes much of his time to mentoring the next generation of wordsmiths. I sat down with Jeffrey in the podcast studio at SOWAL House in Rosemary Beach, FL, during the 30A Songwriters Festival to hear his story of personal trials and successes.
Steele’s list of songwriting accomplishments occupies too much space for an article of this length. The California native turned Nashville wordsmith has churned out numerous top-10 hits, including “The Cowboy In Me,” “These Days,” “What Hurts The Most,” and “My Wish,” all of whom have claimed the number one spot on country music charts.

Each January, songwriters from across the globe who are lucky enough to receive an invitation travel to Flordia’s Emerald Coast for the 30A Songwriters Festival. In fact, Steele has performed each year since the festival kicked off in 2008.
I felt honored to interview such an accomplished songwriter. Our mutual friend – a great songwriter in his own right – Joe Leathers, introduced Jeffrey and me through a text message. Leather, Matt Wynn, and their dear friend, Kyle Jacobs (RIP), sat in the same studio a year earlier. When I asked Joe if he wanted to join Steele for this episode, his reply was simple.

“Dude, you DO Not need me. He is such a dynamic interview, and you would do your show a favor to feature him.”
Joe, I can’t disagree.
Describing our interview could occupy many pages. However, the best way to learn about one of country music’s best songwriting talents is to listen to the man himself.
