Imagine one day that you’re working your sales job, calling on auto part customers when you receive a phone call inviting you to a live audition for the hit TV show, The Voice. It’s a pipe dream for many aspiring artists, but for Kameron Marlowe, it’s the chance to live his own reality show.

Kameron grew up in Kannapolis, North Carolina. His love for music evolved while listening to talented country vocalists such as Ronnie Dunn and Travis Tritt. Both had a considerable influence on the singer’s style and voice inflections. During his formative teen years, he started singing and writing songs and playing in local bands.

“I wasn’t making any money playing music back home, but I loved every minute of it,” explained Kameron in a phone interview.

His 2018 appearance on The Voice was Kameron’s first trip to California. Many fans don’t realize that artists are sequestered in hotels during filming so that they won’t reveal the competition results before the show airs. “We weren’t allowed to go many places except for a nearby shopping mall. But we did sneak out a couple of times to see the sites,” the rising star sheepishly admitted.

His riveting voice is quick to recognize. However, Kameron believes his ability to transfer emotion to music is what gives him an edge. “I love songwriting. Before I was an artist, I was a songwriter. With that said, I also love being on stage and performing in front of fans.”

From The Voice to Nashville

After his appearance on The Voice, Kameron began making the six-and-a-half-hour drive from his North Carolina home to Nashville twice a week. “I know every single exit and bump in the road on the section of I-40 I traveled.”

Before moving to Music City and immersing himself in the songwriting community, he wrote solo for a long time. During the pandemic, Kameron intently focused on writing quality songs.

His 2019 break-out single, “Giving You Up,” talks about a failed relationship. Next came “Burn’Em All” and “Sober As Drunk.” His new single, “Tequila Talkin’,” was co-written with Dan Isbell. “I thought, what happens when I drink tequila? I usually hit on girls, so that’s what we wrote.”

After signing a record deal with Sony last year, his legion of fans started exploding. There’s not much time for Kameron to catch his breath. He recently selected his first tour bus in preparation for a big road trip.

“I was floored when I got the invitation to tour with Brad Paisley this summer,” says Kameron. Interestingly, the young artist hasn’t seen his new mentor perform live. “I’m looking forward to touring with Brad. I may even have to sneak into the crowd and watch his show.”

Preparing For New Horizons

Like most artists, Kameron relishes the chance to expand his musical horizons. “I want to build my base and play in front of as many people as possible. I love my fans so much, and I enjoy communicating with them through my music,” says Kameron.

When asked if he had a pre-show routine, Kameron did reveal what he and his five-piece band do before taking the stage. “We always take a shot of Jack Daniels and say a prayer.”
