The Currys, a musical trio formed of two brothers and a cousin in 2013, continues developing a fan base outside their southern roots.

A few years ago, my good friend and Curry devotee, Deb Van Pelt, suggested that I record a podcast episode with a group she had recently discovered. As you might guess, it was The Currys.

Meeting The Currys

Honestly, I packed the idea in my imaginary “to-do” file and moved on with life. Fortunately, I stumbled across them while searching the events page of a local website. After some quick research, I found their contact page and invited them to record an episode. Galen, the intellectually-inspired cousin and bass player, responded a few hours later and kindly accepted the invitation. I wish I discovered the magical melodies of Tommy, Jimmy (the brothers), and Galen earlier.

I’ve had the good fortune to interview some fantastic musical talent through the Southern Americana podcast. However, my excellent Muscle Shoals-based audio engineer, Grant Walden, said he thought this episode was the best I had ever recorded. That’s a bold statement, given the stable of entertainers I’ve chatted with these past three years. If so, I’ll relinquish credit to Tommy, Jimmy, and Galen. They were incredibly easy to interview, and it seemed as if I had known each other for years.

Needless to say, I’m now a huge fan. I only fall short of being labeled a “groupie” since I can’t throw dollar bills at Galen after one of his fantastic bass riffs.

Grab a beverage, sit back, and enjoy our conversation. Check out their latest album, “Keepers,” due out soon. You can find show schedules and other news at thecurrysmusic.com and listen to The Currys podcast called “This Side of the Mic” on major podcast platforms.
