Known as the “Alabama Astronaut” and based in Mobile, AL, Abe Partridge writes and performs his unique style of Americana music. A staple at multiple songwriting festivals each year, Partridge tours and performs extensively throughout the Southeast. I sat down with Abe during the 2024 30A Songwriters Festival at SOWAL House in Rosemary Beach, FL to discuss his music, preaching background, and his own podcast.

I met Abe Partridge in 2022 at North Beach Social, a popular venue during the 30A Songwriters Festival. Over the years, I’ve formed friendships with many singer-songwriters and artists. To label Abe as “unique” is an understatement. His raspy voice resonates with a southern accent derived from South Alabama, Appalachian Kentucky, and Georgia.

Singer/songwriters often base their compositions on their past experiences and upbringing. Abe’s Free Baptist upbringing plays an integral part in heartfelt lyrics combined with dry humor.

After attending several Bible colleges having to leave for numerous reasons, Abe eventually settled on a short-lived career as a minister. And yes, there was the occasion service and tent revival with some snake handling and speaking in tongues during his tenure in various Appalachian churches. Such experiences come alive in several of his original cuts, including “Preaching the Blues” and “Appalachian Farewell.”

Words can hardly describe Abe’s engaging live performances. Beginning with a March 22 show in Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Abe has several bookings throughout the Southeast in MS, TN, and Kentucky before heading north of the Mason-Dixie line to showcase his talents in Illinois and Michigan. I highly recommend you visit his website for a list of upcoming tour dates.

When he isn’t touring and writing songs, Partridge spends time painting. His various paintings hang in the private collections of Tyler Childers and Tommy Prine. His latest album, “Love In the Dark,” is available through all major streaming platforms and his website.
